Robert Warshaw (borned 21.11.1988 in Mechanicsburg, PA) is a american soccer player who served as captain for Stanford University Cardinals 2008-2010. Warshaw plays as central defender or defending midfielder, even though enjoying a more offensive role during his younger years. Warshaw is one of the largest prospects for the MLS 2011 superdraft and wanted by several MLS clubs [1].

Club Career

Warshaw was during his high school career for Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School selected among others Gatorade State Player of the Year (2005, 2006), Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association player of the year (2006) and NSCAA Youth All-America (2004, 2005, 2006) [2]. He earned a place for the first time in the U-17 national team during the 2005 season.

Warshaw made straight away an impact during his debut season for Stanford in 2007, starting in 17 matches and scoring 5 goals[3]. He continued the same way during the coming seasons and was chosen captain for the team for the seasons 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2009 Warshaw was a Herman trophy (USA College Player of the Year) semi-finalist [4]. He is on the watch list for the same trophy in 2010.

International Career

Warshaw debuted for the USA U-17 national team in 2005 against Honduras [5]. He scored his first goal for the national team in 2007 against Venezuela in the Pan-American Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil [6]. USA ended winning the match 2-1, Warshaw scoring the game winning goal. Warshaw was due to his age not eligible to represent USA in the 2009 U-20 World Cup held in Egypt.

Other

Besides being a extremely talented athlete Warshaw also holds a strong academic record, with a 3.57 GPA in political science. In 2010 Warshaw was awarded Academic All-District Nods [7]. Stanford Cardinal coach Bret Simon describes Warshaw as a "true leader and fierce competitor with a proven track record in every season as a Stanford Cardinal" [8].
