Friends (With Benefits) is an independent comedy-drama film released on June 12, 2009 at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival.[1]
Production
Friends (with benefits) is a micro-budget romantic comedy, filmed in New Haven, CT, by Gorman Bechard, director of You Are Alone, Psychos In Love, and the up-coming Color Me Obsessed, his feature-length documentary on legendary rock band The Replacements (band). The film features music from Matthew Ryan (musician), The Wrens, Sarge (band), The Star Spangles, and Aubrey Debauchery.
Premise
Friends (with benefits) is a feature-length romantic comedy for all those allergic to romance, and for all who have come of (sexual) age in this cynical time of hook-ups, break-ups, and serial amour. Meet Chloe and Owen: a non-binding couple who find little time for the messy relationship stuff, but lots of time for the insanely messy sex stuff. One fateful day, Owen proposes the perfect solution: to just be Friends with Benefits. A perfect plan, that is, if he and Chloe were not secretly in love with one another. So what happens when two close friends decide to blur the lines between a friendship and a relationship? The answer: it gets very complicated.
Casting
The film stars Margaret Laney as Chloe, Alex Brown as Owen, her boyfriend, Anne Peterson as Allison, Jake Alexander as Jeff, her boyfriend, Lynn Mancinelli as Shirley and Branden Bradley as Brad, her boyfriend. And features Rooney Mara as Owen's coffe shop co-worker Tara, and Tara Stiles as Jeff's alternative love interest Lilly.
Release
The film debuted at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival on June 12, 2009 and received their award for "Best Romantic Comedy".[2]
