Tom McCall, Republican governor of the state of Oregon, 1967 - 1975

Thirtieth governor of the state of Oregon, McCall is considered by many to be the best governor of this small state. His efforts to improve Oregon's environmental conditions brought nation-wide -- if not world-wide -- attention to his state.

Prior to his term as governor, he was a political commentator for a local television station, proving that not all journalists are mindless hacks.
