The Indumil Galil ACE is an assault rifle used by the Military Forces of Colombia.
Development
Since the deployment of the Galil in the Colombian armed forces as an assault rifle and standard issue rifle, there had always been the idea of creating another weapon with the Galil technology adapted to the specific needs of the Colombian army; in various studies it was demonstrated that the best option was to create another rifle with the technology avaiable to replace and/or improve aspects of its predecessor, in this case those are:[4]
- The weight of the IMI Galil.
- Its recoil.
- Ease of having a multitask weapon (that can be used as an sniper rifle and have various accesories).
- The use of the standard caliber and the posibility of changing it easily(from 5.56x45mm NATO to 7.62x51mm NATO with as little aditions and modifications as possible).[5]
Fabrication
In the fabrication of the Galil ACE many technics and modern materials were used, the removal of a great part of its weight by replacing and redesigning stamped steel parts with high-tech composite materials like the folding stock and sights, making it easier for the soldier to adapt it to his preferences. Five Picatinny rails were added to be able to increase the performance of the weapon for the soldier in comparison with its predecessor.
This weapon has a reduced recoil because of its stock's capacity to soften the impact of the recoil.[6]
