A World Club Championship for rugby union clubs was held in 1979 (venue ?) and 1986 in France.
In the semi-final in Toulouse, the home team Stade Toulousain defeated Wests (from Brisbane, Australia) 11-6. In the final Toulouse defeated Romania's Farul Constanta, who eliminated Auckland's Ponsonby in the first round.
