Green Arrow (Connor Hawke) is a DC Comics superhero. Created by Kelly Puckett and Jim Aparo, he first appeared in Green Arrow (2nd volume) #0 (1994).

Detailed history

Meeting Ollie

Connor Hawke met Oliver Queen after Ollie returned to the particular ashram he had studied at before, and where Connor had been studying at for some years now. At the time Ollie was haunted by the thought that he had killed his former best friend Hal Jordan, who had gone insane and become the villain Parallax. Although this was later revealed to be untrue, this knowledge was not privy to Ollie. Thanks to Connor, who was a big fan of Green Arrow, Ollie was able to regain a semblance of inner peace and venture out into the world again, especially after numerous attempts on his life had been made.

Connor decided to journey with Ollie, and created a costume similar to Ollie's, and Connor served as Ollie's sidekick, also meeting with Eddie Fyers, the former federal agent that acted as a form of council for Ollie. It was during this time that Ollie learned about his connection to Connor (albeit from the ghost of Hal Jordan): Ollie was Connor's father, from a relationship years before, a truth that Eddie Fyers had since deduced. Ollie didn't take it well and stormed off, agreeing with the government to go undercover into an eco-terrorist group called the Eden Corps. The mission turns out to be fatal for Ollie, as his arm is connected to a bomb in a plane that is headed straight for Metropolis. Rather than endanger Metropolis, he sacrifices himself to let the bomb explode away from Metropolis. With his father dead, Connor decides to take up the mantle and continue his hero work.

The new Green Arrow

Connor continued to travel with Eddie, accompanied as well at times by Connor's martial arts mentor Master Jansen, and they tried to find their place in not only the hero world, but also in the legacy of Green Arrow. Akin to the friendship between his father and Hal Jordan, Connor became quick friends with the new Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, who himself was also struggling to live up to a legacy. Connor of course also met with Black Canary (Dinah Lance), Ollie's true love, who gave one of Ollie's old bows, and the bow that Connor would use from then on. Besides making friends, he also came face to face with Lady Shiva, said to be the deadliest assassin in the world, and was able to fight her almost to a stand-still, making him one of the very few to have survived battle with Lady Shiva.

Connor also applied for membership in the JLA, taking his father's place. On what would be his second interview, he single-handidly saved the League from the hands of the Key, an old villain that had returned to menace the League. In order to do so, Connor defeated the Key's robots using his father's old trick arrows as his own were destroyed. In the end, he knocked out the Key using the famous boxing glove arrow.

He would later be used by Batman as a "traitor" of the League in a ploy to defeat Lex Luthor's Injustice Gang. Connor would leave the League afterward, feeling he was better for the street-level work and out of his element in the epic adventures of the Justice League, although remaining reserve status. He and Eddie would then return to the ashram where Connor was raised for a time.

Presently

When Ollie returned from the dead, Connor left the ashram and tracked him down. Connor moved in with him in Star City. The two live with Mia Dearden a runaway that Ollie has taken in and has recently become the new Speedy. Since returning to the superhero life Connor has been wounded seriously twice, once by the villain called Onomatopoeia, and once by Constantine Drakon, but Connor continues in his hero role. He is the voice of reason for Ollie, and the two have since formed a real father-son relationship.

Powers and abilities

Connor possesses no powers whatsoever, but as an archer Connor would appear to have Ollie's level of skill. Unlike his father (who employs trick arrows from time to time), he uses a traditional bow and arrows. Accompanied with this, as shown in the Brotherhood of the Fist storyline he also is probably one of the best combatants in the area of hand-to-hand combat in the world, and for a time was considered among DC's top martial artists, amongst such people as:

This is as a result of Connor's training in the ashram, that has allowed him to mimic and copy fighting styles that he witnesses. Rumors are abound that this is a meta-human skill, but it is actually a learnt one, that Connor has become adept at utilising.

The continued validity of his high ranking might be questionable, however, due to recent losses in battle, particularly against Constantine Drakon as well as Onomatopoeia.
