Chris "Iron Fist" Garner (born October 31, 1985), is an Australian Super Welterweight kickboxer, fighting out of Phon's Gym in Perth, Western Australia. He is the current Western Australia Super welterweight State champion and represented Australia at the 2009 Thai King's Birthday event against current world champion Cyrus Washington.

Biography

Break dancing

Chris Garner mastered the art of break dancing as a teenager renowned for the ability to perform the famous maneuver the "headspin". In 2002 Garner traveled to Sydney for the X-Games where he performed 32 revolutions; an unofficial tally more than the World Record of 28 at the time.

Teenage Dramas

Chris Garner was a talented break dancer who impressed crowds at several dance events in Perth. Although he soon found himself in trouble with the law through some ill-fated decisions. Garner who had been a long time fan of the hit television show The Ultimate Fighter decided it was time for a lifestyle change, taking up training in the art of Muay Thai an effective form of stand up combat.

Muay Thai Career

Chris Garner made his debut on November 8, 2008 at the Perth Muay Thai event Battle Collossal V against Stewart Mcmillan. Garner won by round 2 knock out with punches.[1] Garner then went on to win his next five fights via knock out earning himself the nickname "Mr. TKO".

Super Welterweight State Title

It was at Battle Collossal VIII that Garner was given the chance to fight for the Western Australian title against popular Perth fighter "Kandy" Kane Henderson for the vacant Super Welterweight championship. In a Muay Thai war the two traded violently with out a backward step, with Garner getting across the line with a barrage of punches in the final round. [2]

King’s Cup 2009

December 5, 2009 Garner represented Australia at the annual Thai King's Birthday event where he fought USA Cyrus Washington [3]. Washington was the more experienced campaigner of the two, although Garner managed to win via judges' decision over five rounds through a hard fought fight.

First State Title Defence

At Battle Collossal IX March 27, 2010 Garner defended his title against Perth star Wes "The Decapitator" Capper on the undercard of Australia's Super 8 Eliminator Championship which would air on Foxsports Television. The bout was an action event with Garner given a standing 8 count in the first 30 seconds from a Capper punch that put Garner behind on the judges' score cards. For the next four rounds Garner would rally back cutting Capper with an elbow in round three. The bout would go on to result in a draw with Garner retaining the Western Australian State Title. [4]

Second State Title Defence

Battle Collossal X August 21, 2010 saw Chris Garner defend his title against upcoming challenger Jamie Gorman. Garner stopped Gorman in round two with leg kicks retaining the Western Australian State Title for a second time.[5]

WBC State Title

With the introduction of the WBC Muay Thai State Titles Chris Garner faced former WBC Muay Thai International Champion Dusan Salva on the main event card of Battle Collossal XI, October 30, 2010. The bout was for for the vacant super welterweight WBC Muay Thai Western Australian title. In a five round battle the judges scored the split decision victory to Dusan Salva. At the end of the bout Garner offered a rematch pending Salva's management agreement.
