Scarlett Middle School is a middle school located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Its mascot is the Roadrunner. It has grades 6, 7, and 8. The school has two mottos: "Passion, Pride, and Productivity" and "Good is the enemy of Great." Gerald Vazquez became Scarlett's latest principal in December 2009.
In 2008, Catherine Campbell, a 7th grade science teacher, was nominated and won the award for Educator of the Year by the Michigan Association of Middle School Educators.[1]
Activities
Scarlett holds annual talent shows, fun fairs, and other after-school activities. Scarlett has always ranked high in Future City Competitions and has begun to rank in the annual Geo-Bee.
Sports
Scarlett is very competitive in sports. The wrestling team dominated the city championships for many years. Basketball at Scarlett is also very competitive. The 2009 8th grade boys' basketball team won the city championship for the 6th time, and many former Scarlett students have been successful at the high school and college levels, including in Big Ten schools such as the University of Michigan, also in Ann Arbor. Scarlett's biggest rival middle school is Tappan Middle School, who also performs well in many sports and academics.
Scarlett Honor Society
The Scarlett Honor Society or Academic Society was created by the former principal, Benjamin Edmondson.[2] It serves as an addition to the Honor roll program that many schools have.
