TARGIT A/S is a Danish Business Intelligence developer company headquartered in Hjørring, North Jutland, Denmark with a subsidiary, TARGIT US Inc., in Tampa, Florida, USA. TARGIT is Denmark's largest developer of Business Intelligence and the leading Danish business software vendor[2][3].

History

TARGIT was founded in May 1986 with CEO Morten Sandlykke as one of the founding partners. While starting out as a software company providing applications to the retail and oil business, TARGIT adjusted its business to accommodate the need for analytical processing tools.[3][4]

With the acquisition of Morton Systems in 1996, TARGIT started to develop a business intelligence tool. In October 2000, the company was reorganized; TARGIT A/S became the pure business intelligence company it is today and markets only the business intelligence software solution; TARGIT BI Suite [3][4][5]. According to the independent IT analyst firm Gartner, TARGIT is one of the BI platform vendors whose vision includes the consumerization of BI. As well as TARGIT's Apple iOS mobile version, its TARGIT PI (personal intelligence) offering is evidence of this. The latter allows users to upload and share their raw data files and gain overview and insight via visualization and navigation, but on a constrained scale [6].

Core product

The first version of the TARGIT Business Intelligence technology was launched in 1996. According to Gartner, TARGIT's central value proposition is to make BI easier to use, getting "business insight with as few clicks as possible". This assertion is supported by the fact that more TARGIT customers surveyed selected it due to ease of use than any other vendor on the Magic Quadrant by Gartner, when taking both ease of use for the end users and developers into account [5][6].

Gartner also states: "The TARGIT BI platform consists of a broad set of tools that help in setting up the TARGIT environment with very little user intervention. The platform does a significant amount of set up automatically, ranging from scheduled report generation, drill-down and dashboarding to intelligent search, alerting and some level of data mining"[6].

Ideally, for TARGIT to function well, it requires a data warehouse with defined dimensions and measures — according to the survey, fewer than 5% of respondents do not have a data warehouse. This has the effect of reinforcing TARGIT's niche target market segment — there are relatively few small firms with high data warehouse maturity.[6]

Organisation

In addition to the headquarters in Denmark and subsidiary in USA, TARGIT has distribution offices worldwide. According to the company's website, TARGIT offices are located in Australasia, Benelux, Brazil, DACH, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malaysia, North Germany, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom
