The University Carlo Cattaneo (Italian: Libera Università Carlo Cattaneo, LIUC) is a university located in Castellanza, Italy. It was founded in 1991 and is organized in three Faculties. The University is named after Carlo Cattaneo, a nineteenth century local thinker and economist whose philosophy placed human intelligence and willpower alongside the three elements of classic economics - raw materials, capital and labour - thus putting the entrepreneur at the very heart of the economic process.

History and Profile

The University Carlo Cattaneo (LIUC) is an independent, state-recognised institution established in 1991 by the Industrial Association of the Province of Varese (UNIVA). It is situated in the small town of Castellanza, within easy reach of Milan and the Malpensa International Airport. The university is housed in a nineteenth century cotton mill which has been beautifully restored by the world famous Italian architect Aldo Rossi . It is only 400 metres from the train station that links Castellanza to Milan in 35 minutes and just over 1 kilometre from the motorway.

The University is an important example of the tradition for initiative and entrepreneurship in this part of Italy.

Organization

These are the three faculties in which the university is divided into:

Graduates

According to the 2009 Graduates' Employment Conditions Survey by the AlmaLaurea Inter-University Consortium, 79.5% of all LIUC graduates who actively looked for employment after graduation found jobs within 2.5 months. 96.7% of the unemployed graduates who did not look for employment after graduation continued with their studies. The annual graduate employment survey surveyed 521 LIUC alumni one year on from graduation, of which 469 responded.[1]
