Caroline B. Cooney (born May 10, 1947 in Geneva, New York) is an American author of suspense, romance, horror and mystery books for young adults. She currently resides in Westbrook, Connecticut.

Cooney's books have received several honors, including an IRA–CBC Children's Choice and being named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults. Most recently Cooney's Diamonds in the Shadow was named a 2008 ALA/YALSA Quick Pick and was a nominee for the Edgar Allen Poe Awards.

Background

Caroline Cooney was born in 1947 and grew up in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. As an avid reader in her youth, she was interested in The Hardy Boys and Cherry Ames series; her interest in Cherry Ames later influenced her decision to attend nursing school in Boston.[1] In college, Cooney became interested in writing. She attended several colleges, but did not obtain a degree, opting to pursue a career as a writer.

Cooney is married and has three children: Louisa, Sayre, and Harold.
