P.M Taj (1956-1990) is an author of Indian origin, he was a creative writer, actor, and director in Malayalam theater. He was a prominent cultural figure in Kozhikode. Taj wrote many plays during his short span period as an artist and won awards including the Sakthi Award, in memory of the progressive writer Cherukad, as well as the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akadami award twice.

His most famous plays include: Kudukka Athava Vishakkunnavante Vedantam, Kanallattom, Ravvunni, Pavathan Nadu, Perumpara, Mary Lawrence, Thalasthanathuninn Oru Vaarthayumilla, Kurukan Kunjaammante Vaal, Perumkallan, Priyapetta Avivahidhan, Chakram, Aalmarattam, Ambalakaalla, Uthram Thirunallinte Kalpana Pole, Ennum Ennum Priyapetta Amma, and Agraharam.

Myths and folklore had an influence on Taj, but he used them to send a different message in a modern context. Some of his characters like, Ravunni, become part of a sad and bitter tale about globalization.

Early Life

Background

P.M Taj was born in Kerala to a typical middle class family. His father is a Business man and his mother is a House Wife. He has Three younger siblings named Iqbal, Jabeen, Yasmin.

Taj's education was mostly in Kerala. He attended the Sri Gujarathi Vidyala For his primary education and then studied at Zamorins Guruvayurappan college for his higher education. He was so talented in his childhood itself as he had several prizes by participated in so many competition in school days as well as college days. He also had an active participation in college politics. After graduation he worked as an editor in Deshabhimani press.He wrote Perumbara in the year 1977 which marked landmark for a born artist. He married to middle class family girl, Bichu with parent consent, in 1986 and are parent of two sons - Sonal and Vishal.
