Pegunungan Arfak is the highest point on the province of West Papua It is located on northwest side of the Bird's Head Peninsula. It is a popular hiking area and is part of the Arfak Mountains. From the summit, Manokwari can be seen. The summit of Pegunungan Arfak is temperate and dry with summer temperatures up to 90 F and winter temperatures 48 F and below. Average rain amount per year is about 45 inches. It is also part of the Pegunungan Arfak Nature Reserve, a 680 square kilometer (262 square miles) that protects parts of the Vogelkop Montane Rain Forests Ecoregion.
