Boonaa Mohammed is a a critically acclaimed award winning Canadian Muslim poet.[1] Mohammed was the winner of the 2007 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Poetry Face-Off “Best New Artist” award.[1] He has a playwright residency at Theatre Passe Muraille.[1] Although he is better known for his poetry, Mohammed is also heavily involved in the hip-hop community, and uses his quick wit and sense of humour to speak out about local and global issues.[2] He is a second generation immigrant of Oromo ancestry.[2]
