Dagbladet is Norway's third largest newspaper with a circulation of 191,164 copies in 2002. The newspaper was founded in 1869, and its format was changed to tabloid in 1983. The word "Dagbladet" literally means "The daily paper".

Dagbladet is published seven days a week. The publication includes additional weekly feature magazines: Magasinet every Saturday, "Søndag" more oriented towards interior and design every Sunday, "Fredag" focuses on popular culture and young adults every Friday, and also "SportMagasinet" wich is a rare pure feature sport magazine, every Friday.

For a number of years Dagbladet has had a leading role within development of new editorial products in Norway. In 1990, the newspaper was the first in Norway to publish a Sunday edition in more than 70 years, and it was also the first of the major Norwegian newspapers with its own Internet web site in 1995. Over the past few years Dagbladet has had success with Magasinet as part of the Saturday edition. The magazine has a reader coverage of approximately 26% of the adult population of Norway.

Dagbladet is owned by the privately held AS Avishuset Dagbladet. Jens P. Heyerdahl is the main owner and basically has control over the company trough a couple of different companies. AS Avishuset Dagbladet also own the online company DB Medialab AS, which also runs one of Norway's largest websites Dagbladet.no, being slightly smaller than its main rival, Verdens Gang. The paper went online 8 March 1995, and is the oldest one still alive in Norway. By October 2005 it had 1.27 million weekly unique visitors and 83.3 million weekly page impressions [1].

DB Medialab AS, also owns half of the Norwegian internet portal site and ISP start.no. It also runs the puplar online social community Blink.

The editor in chief until early march 2006 was Thor Gjermund Eriksen. He quitted recently and Lars Helle now function ad editor in chief while the company is searching for Eriksens follower.
