Gimsøy Chnurch in Nordland

Gimsøy is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It consisted mainly of the island Gimsøya, which is located in Lofoten between Austvågøya and Vestvågøya.

The municipality was created by a split from Vågan in 1856. At that time Gimsøy had a population of 987. On 1 January 1964 Gimsøy was reunited with Vågan. Prior to the merger Gimsøy had a population of 1.551.

A nine hole golf course is located on the northern shore of the island, with a good view towards the midnight sun in summer.

Gimsøy church (Gimsoy kirke) is located in Gimsøysand on the island of Gimsøya. The church is built of wood. It was inaugurated on 18 October 1876 and has 300 seats. The church was repaired after storms in 1887 and 1906, and also repaired in 1954-55.
