Isaiah George Osbourne (born 15 November 1987) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder. He is currently a free agent after being released by Aston Villa in May 2011. He is also a former under-16 international. He is currently on trial at Leeds United.

Club career

Aston Villa

Born in Birmingham, West Midlands, Osbourne was given the squad number 27 after Martin O'Neill's arrival at Aston Villa. He made his Premier League debut on 21 October 2006, when he came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute for Steven Davis against Fulham at Villa Park. 28 December 2006 saw Osbourne sign a new three-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at Villa Park until the summer of 2010.[1] On 23 September 2008, Osbourne extended his contract with Aston Villa until 2011. While he showed his talent with an impressive cameo from the bench in a 1-1 draw at Arsenal in March 2008. After featuring in a handful of cup matches in 2008-09, he enjoyed a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest, becoming the first signing of Billy Davies' reign. Osbourne remained on the periphery, with most of his first team action coming away from Villa Park. He was released by the club when that contract expired in May 2011.[2][3][4]

Loan Moves

Throughout his Villa career, Osbourne found his first team opportunities limited, making just 26 appearances between 2006 and 2011.[5] During the 2009–10 season, he did not play a single minute of football for the club and only made one substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League the following season.[6] Consequently, he was loaned out a number of times to gain first team experience.

Leicester City

On 10 January 2008, Osbourne agreed to join Ian Holloway's Leicester City on loan,[7] however just a few days later Villa manager Martin O’Neill was forced to cancel the proposed deal because of mounting injury concerns.[8]

Nottingham Forest

On 2 March 2009, he became the first player to move to Nottingham Forest under Billy Davies' reign, joining on loan until the end of the season.[9] He made his debut against Preston North End on 3 March 2009. Osbourne made eight appearances for Forest in the Championship before returning to Aston Villa.

Middlesbrough

Osbourne joined Gordon Strachan's Middlesbrough on 5 November 2009.[10] The loan signing made his debut for Boro in a 1–0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. After impressing at Middlesbrough, Osbourne was recalled by Aston Villa due to an injury crisis. Middlesbrough had wanted to extend Osbourne's loan spell.[11] In February 2010, Osbourne nearly joined Q.P.R. on loan.[12]Osbourne told the Birmingham Mail that he expected to remain with Aston Villa for the remaining year of his contract, in the hope that he could force his way back in to manager Martin O'Neill's plans.[13]

However, he failed to make an impact under new manager Gérard Houllier who replaced O'Neill in September 2010.[14] Either side of his loan spell in the North East, Osbourne featured on numerous occasions for Villa's Reserve League South-winning second string.

Sheffield Wednesday

After being linked to loan moves to Leeds United and Leicester City.[15] On 30 January 2011 he was again loaned out, this time to Sheffield Wednesday of League One managed by Alan Irvine.[16]On After Irvine was sacked and replaced by Gary Megson, Osbourne was dropped out of the first team with Megson preffering to bring in his own players.[17][18] 5 April, it was announced that Osbourne's loan deal had been terminated early and he returned to Aston Villa.[19] He made a total of 11 league appearances for The Owls.

Leeds United trial

19th July 2011, Osbourne joined Leeds United on trial.[20] He played for Leeds against Rochdale[21] then Sheffield Wednesday.[22] He was set to play for Leeds against Bradford Park Avenue but missed the game through injury.[23][24]

Personal life

Osbourne attended Kingsbury School and Sports College.[citation needed] His brother, Isaac plays in the same position at Aberdeen.[citation needed] Growing up, he supported Arsenal. He named former Gunners captain Patrick Vieira as one of his footballing role models.[25]

On 6 October 2009, it was reported that Osbourne had been arrested at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath Training Ground four days earlier on suspicion of conspiracy to rob, and questioned at Kings Heath police station before being released on bail pending further inquiries.[26]
