"Yes, Then Zero" is the 88th episode of the The CW television series Gossip Girl and the premiere episode of the fifth season.[1] The episode was directed by Mark Piznarski and the third premiere in the series written by Joshua Safran. This also marks the third time that the show filmed a scene in California and the show's fourth revisit to The Hamptons. "Yes, Then Zero" aired on the CW in the United States on September 26, 2011, and was viewed by an audience of 1.37 million Americans.

"Yes, Then Zero" reveals the cast in new and different locations. A focused, work-oriented Serena van der Woodsen moves to Los Angeles after becoming involved in the creation of a Hollywood film, later becoming a production assistant Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) and Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) visit Serena in LA where Nate becomes involved with a mysterious woman (Elizabeth Hurley) while Chuck displays habits of thrill seeking for unknown reasons. Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) seeks the aid of Prince Louis (Hugo Becker) to keep his novel from getting published at a time when Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) is irritated by Louis' adherence to his mother's wedding demands instead of hers. Ivy Dickens (Kaylee DeFer) moves to Los Angeles hoping to start a new life until a chance encounter with Serena forces her back into the Upper East Side.

Hollywood stuntwoman, Zoë Bell was slated to appear on the show and made her debut in the season premiere.[2] New York Magazine noted the appearance of American novelist Jay McInerney, who reprised his role as writer Jeremiah Harris.[3]
