Sylvester Samuel better known by his stage name Lil Ru, is an American rapper from Columbia, South Carolina currently signed to Def Jam Recordings. His debut album, 21 & Up was released on August 25, 2009. The Ridgeway native was 16 when he made his professional foray into the music business. Inspired by New Orleans’ innovative Cash Money Crew, Ru began making a name for himself on his local music scene, doing live shows and pressing up his own CDs. His hard-hitting lyrics and entrepreneurial spirit caught the attention of fellow South Carolinian Angie Stone. Shortly after the neo-soul songstress helped him secure a deal with Elektra Records, Ru found himself unsigned again, among the artists lost in the shuffle after the label merged with Atlantic Records. Music fans first got a taste of Ru’s wrath on his 2001 debut single “Will Destroy.” The buzz on the promising new lyricist continued with the release of his 2002 follow up, “Shawty What You Doin’.” Both songs reached the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts and helped land him at his next label home, Capitol Records. Samuel was recently arrested on charges of possession of marijuana.

Lil Ru is the Southern California rapper who started performing since the age of 15. Having experienced his share of hardships and born in Riverside General Hospital Ca. in 1987, Lil Ru has taken part in a less than convenient childhood. His father began the first of many prison terms in 1989 and wouldn't be released until 1994 and would be in and out for the next two decades, Ru's mother would remain separated as their family of 3 would migrate to Moreno Valley. Lil Ru would eventually pursue his music and begin rapping along side his big brother in 2001. After the successful release of three albums released by Teen Angels & Familia Records, Lil Ru and Johnny Boy would soon experience the ups and downs in the business, although their music was a product of their inescapable environments, some would choose to glorify the music instead of learn from it. In turn Ghetto Star Recordz is currently in a tug-o-war with opinionated haters and their scrutinized intentions.== Charts == Billboard
