Beth Raymer (born in 1976 in Steubenville, Ohio) is a muse for gamblers and bookmakers, and a writer. Raymer received an MFA from Columbia University.[1] As a Fulbright fellow, she studied offshore gambling operations in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama.[1]

While attending Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Beth Raymer worked as a not exactly high dollar escort named Angel. For $150 she would meet tricks anywhere from a hotel rooms to a parking lot. She garnered a reputation among the other call girls for blackmailing clients and at the very least swipe and use their credit card information. After performing a live sex show in a hotel convention room before a dozen male FSU classmates, she and her date were shamed out of a later formal class party when several of the sex show attendees recognized and approached her.

Her memoir Lay the Favorite, published in 2010,[2] is a "Dickensian picaresque that paints an entertaining view of sports gambling and her own unconventional character".[3] In 2007, Focus Features and Random House Films acquired the rights to produce a movie adaptation of Raymer's book.[4] It has been reported that Stephen Frears will direct the movie.[5]
