Grind House is a film expected in 2006. It will consist of two segments, roughly an hour-long each. "Project Terror" will be a zombie film written and directed by Robert Rodriguez. "Death Proof" will be a slasher film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. In March of 2006, Rodriguez's segment began shooting in Austin, Texas.
Between the two segments will be trailers advertising fake films. Tarantino has stated that they plan to shoot fake trailers for a blaxploitation movie, a kung-fu movie, a sexploitation movie and a spaghetti western trailer. The only one he has confirmed is the sexploitation, which will be for a film titled Cowgirls in Sweden. Also, in an interview with Danny Trejo, he said that he will be in a fake trailer for a movie called Machete [1].
The film will star John Jarratt along with Alicia Rachel Marek, Danny Trejo, Tom Savini[2] (who also worked with Rodriguez and Tarantino on their earlier collaboration From Dusk Till Dawn), Michael Keaton (who worked with Tarantino in Jackie Brown), Dean Fernando [3], Rose McGowan, Marley Shelton, Michael Biehn [4], Mickey Rourke, Zoe Bell, Lucy Lawless [5], Josh Brolin, Jeff Fahey, and Freddy Rodriguez. The Weinstein Company has slated the film for a December 1, 2006 release date. The film is slated to being in production in January 2006, but Rodriguez apparently did three days of shooting to get himself excited about it. He believes much of that footage will be in the finished film . Rodriguez's band Chingon will be doing some music for the film.
