King of the Dot, also known as KOTD, is a Canadian hip hop battling league[1]. It is based in Toronto, Ontario.

King of the Dot is hosted by Organik. It began in August 2008 in an alleyway near Toronto Eaton Centre[2], and now features over 150 emcees, battling in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary and Vancouver[3].

The influence of King of the Dot has spread globally, inspiring the creation of other battles leagues such as Flip Top in the Phillippines[4].

King of the Dot has three divisions — Prove Yourself (for new jacks); Ground Zero (the middle tier); and KOTD (the best of the best)[5]. King of the Dot events feature all elements of hip hop culture, including accappella emcee battles, beatboxing [6], graffiti, DJ’ing and breakdancing.

Events

In 2010, King of the Dot hosted its first Grand Prix[7]. Kid Twist was the first King of the Dot champion[8].

Several major battles events have been hosted by King of the Dot, including World Domination II in August 2011[9]. American rapper Illmaculate defeated Bender during this event[10], which was featured in Forbes[11].

On November 5, 2011, King of the Dot hosted Flatline, which featured a battle between rappers Dizaster and DNA. This is event was co-hosted by Canadian hip hop artist Drake, who put up $3000 of his own money to be awarded to the winner of the battle[12] [13].
