Rachel Burgin is a Florida Republican politician who serves as the Representative from District 56 in the House of Representatives of the U.S. state of Florida. The district includes parts of Tampa, Riverview, and several other cities in Hillsborough County. She was elected in November 2008 with 59% of the vote, defeating Lewis Laricchia.[1] She replaced former Representative Trey Traviesa, for whom she worked as a legislative aide.[2]

Burgin was born in Brandon, Florida [1] and raised in Plant City, Florida, and is the third of seven children. She was born on July 23, 1982. [2] She is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. [3]

An evangelical Christian; [4] she is a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Rachel Burgin majored in Biblical Studies. [5] She says that her goals include lowering taxes, creating new jobs and educational opportunities, and upholding the principles of her district in the Florida capital. [6]

In November of 2011, Representative Burgin introduced a bill to reduce corporate taxes. The original text mistakenly contained boilerplate language from the American Legislative Exchange Council, a pro-business lobby group that drafts model bills that can be introduced in state legislatures. The original text even included the group's Mission Statement. Within days, Burgin withdrew the bill, and reintroduced a new version that omitted ALEC's "Mission Statement" language.
