This protesting group is taking place at the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate. "since January 27th Occupy Thanet has been camped outside the Turner Gallery day and night - in deep snow and howling gales".

They have recently been getting a quite a bit of media attention, these include Occupy Thanet on facebook[3] on this page they have over 500 members and is growing. They have just started using Occupy Thanet on Twitter [4] and that has just started becoming quite busy. They have just produced a website called Occupy Thanet [5] it contains a lot of photo's about what they are about.

Background and Mission Statement

The original intent of Occupy Thanet, as with many of the other "Occupy" movements, which are protesting the role in which large corporations have taking away peoples human rights and have caused the financial crisis. The protesters in Thanet, as in other movements throughout the world, have described themselves as the "99 percent," a reflection of their belief that the financial system rewards the richest 1 percent at the expense of everyone else.

This movement is about creating a more fairer financial system than the one we currently have got. We demand that the government listen more to the needs of the 99% instead of the 1% which own corporations. This movement is interested in ending the massive corporations, like large banks which get bailed out with tax payers money. This movement is about economic security. This group is also focus on preventing banks and financial institutions from causing future economic crises. This movement is about corporate responsibility. The group want repercussions for corporations and institutions who cause serious financial damage to our country and its taxpayers. They are also interested in corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes.
