Andrew N. Forde (born January 21, 1987) is a Canadian entrepreneur and engineer. He is the co-founder and present COO of Sommerfeld Solutions, an applied innovation firm. In addition to this, Forde is the CEO of Sommerfeld Engineering (a branch of Sommerfeld Solutions). Using the idea of innovation as a fundamental guiding principle, Forde aspires to apply his skills for the development of a more conscious, forward moving society.[citation needed]

Education and career

Though formally trained in nanotech engineering, Forde diversified by creating Sommerfeld Solutions. Launched in January of 2011, Sommerfeld provides platforms for businesses and organizations. His offshoot start-up, Sommerfeld Engineering, operates in the areas of mining, information technology, and healthcare.[1]

In 2011, Forde graduated with a BASc in Nanoengineering (MSE) from the University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. He is currently working towards a Master's Degree in Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation at McMaster University.[1]

Sommerfield Solutions (and Forde) have been supported by McMaster University through a funding initiative from the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.[2]

In 2012, Forde was awarded the Harry Jerome Young Entrepreneur Award by the Black Business and Professional Association.[1][3] Forde has also received an Aroni Award.[4]

Leadership

As part of his 2010 term as President of the University of Toronto's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, Forde participated in an initiative called the TORCH program, which was designed to "increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."[5]
