Diana Yukawa (ダイアナ 湯川, Daiana Yukawa) is an Anglo-Japanese solo violinist and Songwriter. She has had three solo albums with BMG/Sony Music, one of which opened to #1.

Early life

Diana Yukawa was born in Tokyo, Japan to English ballet dancer Susanne Bayly and Japanese banker Akihisa Yukawa one month after her father died in the 1985 Japan Airlines Flight 123 disaster.[1][2][3][4] Yukawa has lived in the United Kingdom since she was 2 months old and began learning violin when she was 5 years old.[2][5]

Because Diana was born after her father’s death, his name was excluded from her birth certificate until July 2009.

Career

Diana Yukawa's debut album La Campanella, released in 2000 on BMG RCA, became a No.1 best seller in Japan. It was released in the UK under the title Elegy in 2001. Her second album – works by Saint-Saëns with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was released in 2001. Her third album, The Butterfly Effect, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, was released on 21 October 2009.

Following Diana’s debut album she was acknowledged as one of the country’s top 10 artists. Diana has lead an extraordinary life. Born in Tokyo just 3 weeks after the 1985 Japan Airlines disaster that took her father’s life, Diana has crossed cultural boundaries in her personal life and is pushing to cross even further in her professional life as a talented and much celebrated songwriter and musician.

In the time since the release of her first two albums Diana developed her own revolutionary sound for her third release, “The Butterfly Effect”. Diana is back in the studio working on new material for the next album, creating a cutting edge, innovative, modern sound.

Diana is not only an exceptional violinist, but a talented songwriter. Together with her co-writing/producer team, their creativity fuses together effortlessly to craft original and powerful pieces of music capable of fitting a complete range of briefs.

As a violinist Diana demonstrates that the violin is a diverse instrument captivating event goers with her powerful performance; as a songwriter, Diana has created a modern sound that reaches out and enthrals audiences all over the world. In May 2012 The Cambridge Union Society [6] also invited the songwriter and violinist to give a talk. Diana Yukawa was asked to give her address owing to her continued contribution the arts as well as her fascinating heritage and life story.

Performance

Diana Yukawa has performed solo at such auspicious venues as St. James Piccadilly, Cadogan Hall, to 60,000 people at the Khalifa Stadium [7] in Qatar, to a sold-out Hollywood Bowl and for the 2012 New Year concert at Burj in Dubai [8]. More recently the violinst has supported Katherine Jenkins at Cheltenham Racecourse,[9], The Tivoli Festival [10], Opened new music event Jam Dubai,[11] headlined at Kenwood House Picnic Concerts on 7 August,[12] performed music from Halo at the Video Game Awards 2010 [13] and opened the FINA world swimming championship in Dubai.[14]

Diana has also collaborated with other musicians including Jeff Beck, Paul Oakenfold, Japanese group Deen, Craig Armstrong and features as a special guest for various PBS shows.
