Watch Dogs (stylised WATCH_DOGS) is an upcoming open world action-adventure video game published by Ubisoft and developed by Ubisoft Montreal. It is a cyberpunk-influenced open world game, centering around the player's ability to hack into various electronic systems to accomplish their goals. The game was first unveiled during Ubisoft's press conference for E3 2012, and will be released on PC's, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Gameplay

The main gameplay mechanic of Watch Dogs is the use of hacking and surveillance—the gameplay demo presented during Ubisoft's press conference showed that the player can manipulate and disrupt electronic devices (such as cameras and traffic lights), jam communications, and tap on mobile phone conversations in order to collect information on their target. The player can also access information from the ctOS on the NPCs they encounter, including information on demographics, health, and their probability of violence.

The gameplay consists of hacking various electronic devices including cell phones, cameras, and traffic lights in order to reach the target.[1]

Plot

The main story is set in Chicago, Illinois during the 2010s and revolves around a man named Aiden Pearce, who has breached into Chicago's "ctOS" (Central Operating System), a centralized computer system which controls almost every piece of technology in the city, and contains information on all of the city's residents which can be used for various purposes.

Development

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and began development in 2010.[1] The game was officially unveiled during Ubisoft's press conference at E3 2012. Although a copy of the trailer was accidentally posted early by Ubisoft's YouTube channel, it was quickly removed shortly before its official debut.[2] [3] Ubisoft has since confirmed that the game will be a multi-platform release for Xbox 360, PC, and PS3.[4]

Reception

Pre-release

The gameplay demo of Watch Dogs at E3 was immediately met with positive reception from critics following the press event, praising the game for its "next gen"-quality graphics (despite being released for current generation consoles) and its unique gameplay.[5]
