The Black Ships are an English rock band formed in November 2008 by former Verve members Nick McCabe and Simon Jones[1], following the split of the Verve following the release of the 2008 reunion album Forth.
The band also features Coldplay/Goldfrapp collaborator Davide Rossi, who also featured on Forth and shared the stage with the band at festivals including T In The Park and Glastonbury Festival, and drummer Mig Schillace who has also worked with Goldfrapp and Portishead[2]. The band started rehearsing in Copenhagen before deciding on the band name in March/April 2009[2] and released their long awaited debut EP Kurofone in June 2011[3][4]. The band also made their live debut in June 2011 at King's College Students Union in London, featuring a host of different vocalists including Amelia Tucker, David McKellar and Charley Bickers[5]. The band also contributed a version of Rope Soul'd to the John Martyn tribute album "Johnny Boy Would Love This: A Tribute To John Martyn" released in August 2011[6].
At some unknown date, they renamed themselves Black Submarine, perhaps to avoid a legal dispute from a pre-existing band called The Black Ships. [7]
