"The Return of the Joker" is a Batman Storyline which features a villain posing as Batman's archfoe - "The Joker" who was believed to be long dead.

Plot

A judge was found hanged. Commissioner Gordon believed that The Joker(who was believed dead in a helicopter crash)was the culprit. Bruce Wayne, upon hearing of this decided to send his ward, Tim Drake to school in Tokyo while The Joker was on the loose. The Joker then attacked an investment party - stealing cash and jewels from the audience. Gordon felt that something was not right about the way The The Joker digs into his bag of old junk only to find his Red Hood costume. Joker operated - of course! This Joker was an imposter! Meanwhile, in his hideout, the real Joker fumes at his name being wrongly used. As he is still recovering from the crash, he decides to gain his self-confidence once more to re-become "The Joker". He does this by digging through his bag of old stuff and finds his old "Red Hood" costume and uses it to commit a crime.[1]

After re-gaining his self-confidence, The Joker goes after the False-Joker. Batman also goes after the False-Joker. Both Jokers meet in a violent confrontation with the real Joker gaining the upper-hand. The confrontation is stopped by both Batman and the Police and both Jokers escape. The False-Joker lures his three persuers to the chemical plant where the Joker was born. Joker attacks the wannabe. As he wants so bad to be the real Joker, the wannabe jumps into the vat of toxic waste which The Joker jumped into to transform himself into The Joker. However, the chemicals do not work the way he tought they would work and they eat him alive. Batman arrests the real Joker who willingly goes along with him.[2]
