Helen Glover (born 17 June 1986) is a British professional, Olympic Gold medal-winning rower and a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team.[1]

Glover was born in Truro, Cornwall, England.[2] She started rowing in 2008 through the Sporting Giants scheme and was placed on to the GB Rowing Team's Start programme in Bath.

In 2009, she won a gold medal in the senior single scull at Women's Henley and in 2010 came 3rd in the Reading University women's eight at the Head of the River.

Glover won a silver medal at the 2010 World Rowing Championships. In this, her first international season, Glover along with crewmate Heather Stanning gave a breakthrough performance in the women's pair. For the 2010 World Cup Series, Glover raced in the women's pair with Heather Stanning, taking 9th place in Bled, 5th in Munich and then at Lucerne was unable to race due to illness.

In 2011, Glover and crew mate Heather Stanning won the British rowing trials and went on to become World cup winners, winning in both Munich and Lucerne regattas (beating the 2010 world champions in the process) and achieved a further silver medal in the 2011 World Championships in Bled, Slovenia.

Glover and Stanning won the gold medal for the women's coxless pairs at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.[3][4] This was the first gold medal won by competitors at the 2012 Olympics from the United Kingdom.

Personal life

Glover has always participated in a variety of sports, and as a junior ran cross-country internationally and was part of the England Satellite Squad for Hockey.[5] She went to Humphry Davy School in Penzance, Corwall studied at Millfield School, Somerset. At university in Cardiff she studied Sport and Exercise Science. After graduating from University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, she then went on to study for a post graduate certificate in education in physical education. Prior to being awarded lottery funding, Glover worked as a physical education teacher in Bath.
