His acting debut has been with bengali's eternal favourite classic show "Gaaner Oparey", produced by Ideas Creations, it was aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June,2010 to 16 April,2011. Ideas Creations, the production house of Prosenjit Chatterjee and Star Jalsha launched "Gaaner Oparey" to pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary .The likes of Rituparno Ghosh(who was initial scriptwriter of Gaaner Oparey), Debojyoti Mishra(Music Director), and other noted personalities from Film Industry were involved with the project.[3]

Arjun has won accolades and has has received numerous awards for his terrific potrayal of Gora in his debut serial , the epic called "Gaaner Oparey".

Gaaner Oparey , A Milestone

Gaaner Oparey , was the musical journey between two artists ,bohemian Gora and traditional Pupe and their love and in the whole process reinventing Tagore's "music" . The story revolved around a girl called Pupe from an orthodox Tagore-worshipping family and Gora, an extremely talented but care-free lad, who keeps on experimenting with Rabindra sangeet. Now what intrigued was : never the twain shall meet ?This TV show marks the beginning of a-year-long celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. GAANER OPAREY was for people who understand Rabindranath, his songs, his poems, his understanding of love and life. The show soon became favourite show of the educated and sophisticated bengalis accross the globe, since it was different from the run of the mill serials that was running in various TV channels and was thought provoking and gifted Rabindranath's teachings in a new way.It was path breaking and brought a new set of viewers back to TV and achieved "cult" status..The serial created a great awarness among the young generations about Tagore ,his philosophy and music. Most importantly it revolutionised Rabindrasangeet ,and made it popular amongst youth who earlier shunned away from Tagore songs thinking it to be out of fashion.

It was initially scripted by Rituparno Ghosh and later by Anuja Chattopadhyay and was directed by Joydeep Mukherjee. The music director was Debojyoti Mishra.

Gaaner Opaarey had outstanding cast , a blend of veteran actors and newcomers who did tremendous job and made all the characters immortal. Arjun's elder brother Gaurav Chakrabarty played a very important character named Prodipto , his father Sabyasachi Chakrabarty was in a pivotal role named Bisri who was Pupe's father, and his mother Mithu Chakrabarty was also part of the cast.

Arjun potrayed the role of Gora(one of the everbest characterisation) , an immensely talented and gifted soul with terrific voice ,who dared to sing Rabindrasangeet in his own way causing a threat to big institutions like "Sonar Tori" who wanted to keep Rabindrasangeet for elite class only and didnt allow any experimentation on Tagore songs, for their own benifits and power. But Gora soon fell in love with Sonar Tori's Golden girl Pupe ,who was considered to be torch bearer of Sonar Tori's tradition. Sonar Tori's exceptionally well crafted plan drifted apart the love birds on the Maghotsav day,and Gora completely heartbroken fled away, as he couldnot bear the betrayal and later wanted to sacrifice his love so that Pupe can stay happy getting married to Sonar Tori's choice. Arjun was absolutely phenomenal in such a complex role ,which had various shades of simplicity, innocence, romanticism ,anger , betrayal , incapability, ,breaking down , agony, pain ,suffering, sacrifice and finally getting back his love & succeeding in life, growth of a young lad to a complete man! Gora was the symbol of "Celebration of Life"...symbol of "true spirit"..."humanity, love, affection".Arjun was fabulous in all the emotions, and made Gora unforgettable.
