alwan al showaya, (Arabic: علوان الشویع) a singer from Alahwaz, and the inventor of the Arabic singing Style “ Alwanie”, that became known as his name. Alwanie Style went beyond the borders of Khuzestan, Iran, and was introduced in Iraq, Bahrain, and Kuwait. [1] Now the artists and the singers in those countries know Alwanie as the name of <ahwazian alwan>. In this style, alwan as playing the instrument “rabab”, which is a traditional construction of khouzestan, and south of Iraq, was singing poems of famous poets from now and the past, he also was telling the names of poets as he was singing the poems. His life

Alwan was born in an Arabian village of Khuzestan. In his adolescence was deeply interested in tragic voices. Alwan initially by using an empty gallon of oil and a few horse hairs reconstructed the “Rababa” instrument, and then sang his tragic with music. In his adulthood, with his wife and daughter, Shahla, moved to a nearby villages of Ahwaz. Alwan used in most of his songs, epic and ethical poems. In his songs he also invited the people to the courage, generosity, patience, forgiveness, relationship with relatives, fighting unjust and helping the poor people.

Alwanie Vocal style

After a period of time, this kind of music were popular to the public and also the other artists, and was named by its own inventor (Alwan) “Alwanie”. In literature “alwanie” is referred to the poet and singer, where the poet and the singer is one person, too. Today Alwanie is refers to a song with peaceful and sad music, which is played only with “Rababa” instrument. This style is considered as a public art of Arab people of Iran. [5] [6]

Spread of Alwanie

In the period of Sheikh Khazal, Arabic music in Khuzestan, thrived and spread plentiful. Khazal moreover than local Arab musician, invited bands from Arabic countries such as Iraq, Lebanon and Egypt, to his palaces, to run. At Pahlavi era Arabic music was stagnating. In solar Sixties, <Alwan abo-Shahla> appeared in Ahwaz, who knew the rows and singing instruments and any type of Arabic poems of people of khuzestan.[7]

Alwanie is somehow similar to “amiri” vocal style of Mazandaran. Alwanie Style went beyond the borders of Khuzestan, Iran, and was introduced in Iraq, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Now the artists and the singers in those countries know Alwanie as the name of <ahwazian alwan>. Alwanie vocal style is placed in division of music, “Ryfy”. Now also in Khuzestan, many singers follow Alwan style of singing. “Hassaan Algezar” in “SHavoor” city of Susa, was one of the people who sang whith this Style. “Alkhashabeh” bands also helped to promote it against the Vulgar music. Alwanie is a very sad local arabic song, that is named bye the name of its inventor Alwan. [8] [9]
