Dixie Gilmore

John Smiley Dixon "Dixie" Gilmore OBE (died 29 May 1997) was Lord Mayor of Belfast from 1987 to 1988 having previously been Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast.[1] He was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1989.[1]

Gilmore was a member of the Ulster Unionist Party and had formerly served in the British Army in Malaysia where he met his wife Esme. He was a member of Belfast City Council from 1973–77 and then was Alderman for Laganbank from 1985-1993.[1]

Gilmore was a shopkeeper by trade, owning a corner shop on Belfast's Cromwell Road in the University area.[2]
