Mark James Rylands (born 11 July 1961)[4] is the suffragan Bishop of Shrewsbury in the Church of England.[1][5]

He was born on 11 July 1961,[4] the son of Canon Thomas Michael Rylands, sometime Vicar of Wilton and Rural Dean of Malpas.[6] He was educated at the College of St Hild and St Bede and Trinity College, Bristol.[7] He was ordained in 1988 and began his career with a curacy at St George's, Stockport.[8] He was then Vicar of Acton and Worleston, Cheshire and from 1997 to 2002 Team Rector for Langport, Somerset. Since then until his elevation to the Episcopate[9] he has been Diocesan Missioner and a Canon Residentiary at Exeter Cathedral.[10]

Rylands was consecrated a bishop at Westminster Abbey on 28 October 2009 and installed as Bishop of Shrewsbury at Lichfield Cathedral on 2 November 2009.[2]

His wife Amanda is also a priest and they have two adult children called Frances and Samuel, both of whom are studying at the University of Exeter and Nottingham respectively.

Samuel is currently in Hallward Library, Nottingham, finalizing the first draft of his dissertation. Good luck to him
