Speedy deletion nomination of Learning Express Toys
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Learning Express Toys requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.learningexpress.com/about-us/our-story/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 22:21, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Status and Advice
As reviewing administrator, I deleted this, but then decided to restore it to give you a chance to fix it, and some associated pages.
- . Remove the story of how the proprietor happened to create the business, or reduce it to a single sentence. That sort of content is considered here as a sure sign of promotionalism, and, is, in fact, standard practice of a group of paid sockpuppets. .
- . There are links to the awards from the store to various toys. Unless you can show these awards are notable, remove both the links and the mentions of the award from all the associated articles. I know you didn't put in the text, just the links, but it's not appropriate content.
- Remove the external links except for their main website. Anyone wanting to find them on facebook etc will know how to do so.
- The list of the brands they sell is advertising, pure and simple.
- Google finance is not a reliable source for notability--it's just a search website; (the citation in any case should be to Hoover's, which is itself just a directory)
- Chain store age is perhaps a RS, but their article is an interview where the proprietor says whatever she pleases. It's not a reliable source for notability , except to the extent they say it's the largest franchiser of specialized toy stores.
- The toy directory interview, similarly.
- Someone will undoubtedly noinate the article for a discussion in a day or two, so fix all this right away.
- The only thing that will really rescue the article is a substantial article not based on public relations DGG ( talk ) 23:54, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Response
DGG, I appreciate your feedback. I will respond:
- . I have reduced the story per your recommendations to a single paragraph of three concise sentences. I believe I have removed all "fluff" that could be perceived as promotional. Each sentence is factual and is backed up by sources, including a print book (not just PR releases). I am happy to reduce more if necessary, but I feel the information provided would be less useful to the reader.
- . I have added additional sources for the awards under the Convention heading. You are correct, I added links back to the Learning Express Toys page from articles that mentioned the awards they had received from the company. However, I am uncomfortable removing the text from the other pages. I can remove the links if you still feel that is necessary based on the additional sources provided for the awards not being notable enough.
- . The list of brands was removed, per your recommendation.
- . Google Finance was removed, Hoover's put in its place.
- . I can remove the Chain Store Age article from sources if you still feel that is the appropriate action. It does back up the notability of the organization, as you mention.
- . I can do the same with the Toy Directory interview as well, if you feel that is important.
- . I am happy to participate in any discussion about the organization and to make the article better for all readers.
- . I have tried to add additional sources not based on PR (a book, several local newspaper sources)
