Miracle at Moreaux

Miracle at Moreaux is a 1986 Made-for-TV film based on the novel Twenty and Ten by Claire Huchet Bishop. Set in France, the movie was filmed in Quebec and aired on PBS.

Plot

In the film, three innocent Jewish children are being hunted down by the Nazi, and they flee into a French Convent. The school is putting on a Nativity pageant, , the children arrive inside followed with the Nazi looking for them and in a quick act of thinking, Sister Gabrielle (Loretta Swit) pretends the three children are her students. They start attending this boarding school run by same Catholic nun, Sister Gabrielle who helped them hide. The Jewish children remain in the school for some time while the Nazis that are patrolling the area, led by an SS Major (Robert Joy), hunt for them in the forests surrounding the convent. Sister Gabrielle takes great lengths to keep the children's identities a secret, but the major is suspicious and continues to believe that they would be hiding in the school.

Meanwhile, the three children have to cope with the Catholic students at the boarding school who have negative attitudes towards Jews. Gradually, after teaching the Catholic students about their religion, the Jewish students win them over and become friends with the other children. Eventually, the entire school helps in the escape by dressing the Jewish and Catholic children in each other's clothing during a school play to confuse the Nazis. While the Nazi soldiers are distracted by the wrong children, the real Jewish children flee towards the border and escape into Spain.
