Much lauded and awarded Tim Pope is a film director most famous for his pop videos, including The Cure, David Bowie, Neil Young and The The. Perhaps the height of his fame was the eighties, though recently (from 2005) and after a gap of nearly twelve years after receiving a "lifetime award" from the CADS he has begun making videos again for bands such as Fatboy Slim, The Darkness, The Kaiser Chiefs, KT Tunstall and Jim Noir. "I simply wasn't ready to go away and die," he laughs of the award. Pope in this field is often described as a "legend" and is very much in demand with many current bands. Pope made his move into the world of features with a short film called "Phone," starring amongst others Bill Pullman, Linda Blair and Amanda Plummer. "Phone" followed the antics of a couple of telephone pranksters who get into their prank deeper than intended, when the people at the other end are cleverer and more devious than themselves. The 'script,' it is said, is literally a verbatim transcipt of a real telephone call, made by pranksters. The film is chocked full of mystery, tension and sexual intrigue. Winner of many prizes, this film led directly to Pope's hire for the helming of the follow-up to The Crow. The Crow 2 achieved the number one spot at the American box-office and is included in the top 1, 500 money-spinners of all cinematic time. Since The Crow's release, Pope has been involved in shooting many commercials, including the BBC trailers for digital TV, where Steven Berkoff famously pulled off his face! Pope is currently developing several movie projects and hopes to make an annoucement in 2006 about his return to the world of movies. One of the projects is called "Wish You Were" and is described as "Wicker Man meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Should be worth waiting for! Pope is famously quoted as saying, "the largest muscle in my body is my imagination." Go to Tim Pope's web site - www.timpope.tv.
