Etymology

So what does Chigwell mean? One might assume that there was a well there, but chig? -- Evertype· 13:06, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to P. H. Reaney's 'Place-Names of Essex', it means 'Cicca's Well', Cicca being an Anglo-Saxon name.

Transport

Opener

Much of Chigwell is not affluent! The entire curved section of roads is quite rundown and many working class people live there. This should be acknowledged.
