Calling All Cars is an Australian rock band from Melbourne, Victoria and consists of brothers Haydn and James Ing, along with Adam Montgomery. The band have been heavily touring Australia for the past 3 years, released 2 acclaimed albums and have received considerable rotation on Australian radio, including 'album of the week' on Triple J

The band was named after The Sopranos episode, 'Calling All Cars' [1]

History

2005–2009

Calling All Cars formed in 2007 with brothers Haydn and James Ing and friend Matt Lonergan, who was eventually replaced with Adam Montgomery. Haydn and James grew up in a small country town before moving permanently to Melbourne.[1]

The band gradually progressed through live performances with acts like Cog and The Butterfly Effect on national tours.[2][3] Their first big stadium show was supporting Green Day in Auckland, New Zealand. They have also played many Australian music festivals including the Melbourne Big Day Out in Jan 2010 and were selected to open 11 shows alongside Wolfmother for AC/DC on the Australian leg of their Black Ice World Tour in Feb-March 2010.[4]

2009–2010

The band recorded their first album with producer Tom Larkin, the drummer from Shihad. They recorded in his Melbourne studio throughout 2009 and early 2010.[1] The debut album, titled Hold, Hold, Fire, was released on 12 March 2010. They released the single "Hold, Hold, Fire", the title track from the album, in 2009 along with undertaking their own Go Hunting Tour. [5]

Prior to the release, Calling All Cars had three singles from the album in high-rotation on Triple J. Hold, Hold, Fire debuted at number one on the AIR Chart for Independent Label through Independent Distribution and number five for Independent Label through any Distribution. Following the success of the album, the group was labeled the AIR Mover of the Week on 24 March 2010. Sept-Dec 2010 saw Calling All Cars tour Hold, Hold, Fire nationally as well as support Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro [6]

2011–2012

In March 2011 Calling All Cars supported Queens Of The Stone Age on their brief Australian Tour. In April 2011 the band entered the studio with producer Tom Larkin to record their second record "Dancing With A Dead Man'. It was released on August 5th 2011. The album was mixed by UK producer/Engineer/mixer Chris Sheldon. On 1 May 2011 the band released 'Reptile' the first single of 'Dancing With A Dead Man'

On 14 June 2011 the band released a statement saying their new album will be titled 'Dancing With A Dead Man'


On 5 August Calling All Cars released Dancing With A Dead Man the album debuted on the national album ARIA Charts at no. 20. This is the band's highest debut to date. The album was also awarded feature album on Triple J

In November 2011, Calling All Cars supported Foo Fighters on their 'Wasting Light' tour, where they made a short promo video with actor Jack Black (Tenacious D) and various members of Foo Fighters and Fucked Up

In January 2012, Calling All Cars joined the Big Day Out tour, playing all dates on the east coast. However, during the bands Sydney BDO set, lead singer Haydn Ing was knocked to the ground by a rowdy fan involved in the crowd. The blow left him unconscious and as a result, the band could not finish their set. It was later reported that Ing regained consciousness in the ambulance and was pleading for the driver to turn around so he could finish the show.[citation needed]

On 21 February Calling All Cars announced a national tour in support of their new single "She's Delirious". The tour saw the band play their biggest headlines shows to date. Support bands were Strangers from Sydney and Arts Martial from Perth opened all shows.

In April 2012 the band's song "Reptile" was nominated for APRA 'Song Of The Year'. 'Dancing With A Dead Man' was nominated for best Rock/Punk record at the 2012 AiR Awards. The award was won by DZ Deathrays.

The band last show in for 2012 was in July. As of October 2012, no one has heard from the band some time. There has been some speculation that they may have relocated to London to write and record their 3rd album.

2013-present

The band spent most of 2013 working on their 3rd studio album due for release that year, they have been posting teasers on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, including photos and videos of them in the studio, screenshots of their demos on an iTunes playlist (with the names of the songs mostly omitted, leaving the length of the songs, the artist name 'Calling All Cars' and the "album" name 'Album 3 Demos') and a few posts open to interpretation such as 'W.E.R.E.W.O.L.V.E.S' and 'R.A.I.S.E T.H.E P.E.O.P.L.E' . During July, the band played a few secret gigs throughout Melbourne underneath the name 'Werewolves', at venues including The Ding Dong lounge and Cherry Bar. The Ding Dong lounge gig on July 12 was hinted on their Facebook page.[2]

On August 21, the band released the song "Raise The People"[7] on their official YouTube page and on September 2, they released their first official single "Werewolves",[8]

In January 2014, the band released their second single 'Standing In The Ocean', from their upcoming album 'Raise the People' due to be released March 7.
