The Eye is a community radio station in the United Kingdom. The station broadcasts on 103.0 FM in Melton Mowbray and across the Vale of Belvoir.

Background

The Eye was the first community radio stations in the United Kingdom to begin broadcasting on a full five-year licence. Fifteen other stations had previously held short-term licences under the pilot scheme (originally titled "Access Radio"), but The Eye was the first station to go on air after the format was opened to general applications.

Prior to 2004 the station had been known as TWC, and had held a number of 28-day Restricted Service Licence broadcasts with the aim of persuading the Radio Authority (then OFCOM) to licence a new local commercial radio station to serve Melton Mowbray, Cotgrave, Bingham and the surrounding areas of South East Nottinghamshire and North Leicestershire.

Trivia

The first song broadcast after the official launch at 07:00 on November 1st 2005 was Eye of the Tiger by the American classic rock group, Survivor.

Music

The Eye broadcasts a variety of popular music from the 1950s to the present day.

News

During automated programmes the station broadcasts IRN news bulletins at the start of every hour, these are supplemented with local news during live programmes, and "Community Focus" broadcasts throughout the day.

New Studios

From Monday 15 May 2006 until 21 May 2006 inclusive 103 The Eye broadcast automated, non-stop, music as they moved from there original studios at Hickling Pastures to Brooksby Melton College. Regular broadcasts recommenced on Monday 22 May

Rock The Vale (2006)

Rock The Vale was a concert organised in association with the station over the May day bank holiday weekend. It was headlined by Showaddywaddy and featured a number of tribute acts, and the final of the stations Rock Idol. Proceeds from the event went to fund the station and Cancer Research UK

07:00 - 09:00 : Breakfast show with Brian Coutts, playing music predominantly from the 1980s and 1990s, with local news and information

09:00 - 12:00 : Non stop music.

12:00 - 17:00: Non Stop Music

17:00 - 20:00: Paul Anthony - The super party sounds of the seventies.

17:00 - 20:00 (Fridays only) : The Friday Night Rock Show - with Rik D'Tripp

20:00 - 22:00 (Fridays only) : Rudd McCallister - Gets your friday night movin' with those party classics.

23:00 - 07:00 : Non stop music.

Saturdays

08:00 - 12:00 : Rik D'Tripp - Saturday morning music and chat.

12:00 - 14:00 : Non stop music

14:00 - 19:00 : Andrew Clewes - Varied music and listener requests from 2pm till 5pm, "The Mystery Year" from 5pm till 6pm, and "The Party Hour" from 6pm till 7pm.

19:00 - 07:00 : Non stop music

Sundays

07:00 - 12:00 : Pat McCracken with "Community Focus" - Interviews with local people, Sunday Worship, farming news, local events, crime preventions issues and student information mixed with music.

12:00 - 15:00 : Megan Underwood - Requests, chat and between 14:00 and 15:00, some of the greatest tracks from the musicals.

15:00 - 18:00 : Entertainment Weekly with Rik D'Tripp - Singles, albums and DVD Charts along with listners requests.

18:00 - 20:00 : Hardy T - A mix of party music requested by the listeners.

20:00 - 07:00 : Non stop music.

Other Presenters

Christine Slomkowska - Presents all the community focus announcements and local news from across the Vale.


Former Presenters

  • Steve Good, (November 1, 2005 to March 17, 2006). First person on the station, and original breakfast show presenter. He left at the end of his 100th show on the station. From the 22 May for one week only he hosted the breakfast show while Brian Coates was on holiday.
