Novofedorivka incident
On Sunday, 6 April 2014, the Ukrainian defense ministry announced the shooting death of a Ukrainian naval officer in the village of Novofedorivka. The incident which took place outside the Novofedorivka (air base), while a group of Ukrainian soldiers, reportedly drunk, were on their way to the hostel where they were staying, awaiting relocation to mainland Ukraine, when they passed a group of Russian infantry soldiers guarding the entry way to the Air Base where they were previously stationed. An argument broke out between the two, Russian Spetnaz Sergeant Ye S. Zaitsevv shot dead a Ukrainian servicemen, identified as Major Stansilav Karachevsky the military unit No. 1100 in the head twice with an AK-47 at point blank range. Afterwards another Ukrainian soldier identified as Captain A. Yermolenko was beaten and abducted by Russian troops. The body of the Ukrainian major was also taken by the Russian soldiers.[1][2]
