Rigveda Wiki (Korean: 리그베다 위키) is a Korean Wiki started on March 1, 2007. This wiki talks about various range of knowledge without any certain purposes. It had been called 'Angelhalo Wiki' or 'Enhawiki' until December 12, 2012. Enhawiki, however, has been separated since September 2013 operated by Angelhalo.

It has more than 200,000 articles as of July 17, 2013, and this takes third place in terms of size following Korean Wikipedia and Korean Wiktionary.

History

In the beginning of 2007, Rigveda Wiki was started from Wikiwiki which was newly installed in website as Angelhalo. On March 1, 2007, this website was transformed into Korean wiki with wiki basis, and its wiki engine was changed to Moniwiki on December 12, 2008.

Since March 9, 2012, Enhawiki totally has been separated from Angelhalo. With changing the server, its domain and name have changed to Rigveda wiki, but Enhawiki was still commonly used. However, since Angelhalo created a different Enhawiki and separate it off the board in May 2013, Enhawiki didn't exist anymore although people still use the name.

July 31, 2013, Rigveda wiki closed the website for 24 hours temporarily to extend the server but it opened again at 9pm on August 2. [2]

Feature

It is based on Wiki system which anyone can add and edit information. People can write as a member by log-in or using IP address. It is neither a reliable encyclopedia nor pursuing to be so. The users can more freely write any articles than Wikipedia, and they can put their opinions too different from Wikipedia. [3] By being able to do so, Rigveda wiki has more articles about subculture such as cartoons, animations, games, and television programs. It has 'Rigveda wiki board' which is only board for discussing things, questioning, and answering about the articles. [4]

Also it can have deletions lines and humorous articles to make itself less boring to the users.

Rigveda Wiki is very sensitive with people, especially for the risk of denigration except for a few publicly known people, so one can ask the administrator to delete or edit the article as well as set the prohibition of writing an article.

On the contrary of Wikipedia which the administrator only can delete the article, Rigveda wiki users can delete the articles without administrator. But since the editing log remains, people can restore it any time, and one needs to ask the administrator to delete the log permanently.

Critics

Rigveda wiki has been pointed out that it is very subjective not like Wikipedia. It allows guessing, individual opinions, and rumors without any reliable sources and this of course includes inaccurate information which is very likely to be in dispute. Also it's hard to find out what's true. Some people say that we can't trust this wiki at all because there are so many information which hasn't been proved. It doesn't officially complaints but we can often see that kind of articles. [citation needed]

Enhawiki itself introduces a place which is full of information which is useless or related to Otaku, and people criticize for that. The reliability always comes up because people need to double check the information. [citation needed]

Wike Neet

This term is used to describe people who spend a lot of time in Enhawiki. People think that they don't have any special purpose on their lives and spend their time just doing nothing. [5]

Kind of place to save the social memory

Rigveda Wiki is now using a kind of place to save the social memory. Sinking of the MV Sewol was a horrible memory for South Korean. And they want to do not forget about this. So some people used Rigveda Wiki. 3,4000 words is saved at this article after this disaster. It took only one week. Including detailed article, 200,000 words is edited.[6]
