The CAESAR (CAnon Equipé d'un Système d'ARtillerie) is a 155 mm/52-calibre artillery piece installed on a 6X6 truck chassis. It is developed by GIAT and is operated by the French army.

Features

The CAESAR is a wheeled, automonous 155mm artillery canon. It can hold 18 rounds (by itself) and is operated by a crew of 5 people, which can be reduced to 3 if necessary.

It can be transported by C-130 or A400M, or even by a CH-53 helicopter.

Program

The first order (for 5 canons) was passed on September 20, 2000. The first five units were delivered in 2003. Following the evaluation, the main order of 72 units was made in late 2004.
