New Basket Enel Brindisi, also known as Enel Brindisi for sponsorship reason, is a professional Italian team playing in first Italian division Serie A Italian League. It plays its matches at PalaPentassuglia (3,523 seats, restored in 2010) in the city of Brindisi (Puglia Region). Enel Brindisi returned in Serie A after 28 years (last season was 1982/1983), played in the minor leagues. After the 2011–12 season they were relegated to the second-tier SerieB2 league. In 2011–12 they promoted back to the highest tier.
History
The basketball was born in Brindisi in the 1950s with the great Italian coach Elio Pentassuglia. The first participation in the league was in 1974 with Libertas. Then in 1980 another with Bartolini Brindisi, team, where they played for the Americans Otis Howard, Rich Yonakor, Cliff Pondexter and coach Rudy D'Amico. After many years in the minor leagues in recent years the entrepreneur Massimo Ferrarese acquired the team with Antonio Corliano, winning three championships and in 2010 bringing the city of Brindisi in the Italian major league.
