PTAF (acronym of Pretty Taking All Fades ) is a hip hop crunk girl group from Los Angeles. The current members are Kandi, K-Duce and Alizé. They are most known for their viral song "Boss Ass Bitch", which garnered the attention of the public and scored them a record deal with Capitol Records in December 2013.[1]
Background
PTAF came together at Crenshaw High School, and have violent backgrounds. Alizé and the group were involved in numerous fights in their neighborhoods with rivals and made raps about any person they disliked or had problems with. They came up with the name "Pretty Taking All Fades" because "[they're] pretty and like to fight". Originally the girls were going to say, "I don't like that bitch" repetitively but used "boss" to show female empowerment.[2] This was then referenced in their second music video for "Boss Ass Bitch."[3]
"Boss Ass Bitch"
"Boss Ass Bitch" was the first song released by the group. It was released 9 May, 2012 accompanied by a music video. The music video was filmed in front of a white fence. It has 11 million views as of 30 March, 2014. On 29 March, 2014, PTAF joined VEVO and released a more updated music video. The members changed their looks, sported new colored hair, wearing make-up, and wearing designer clothing.
2014 - present: Capitol Records
Nicki Minaj released a remix of their viral video that was popular from the phone app Vine "Boss Ass Bitch" via SoundCloud which scored the group a record deal with Capitol Records.[4] When Minaj used the beat, Devon DeVoe' Reed, their previous producer, released the single "Do Yo Shit" to get more attention on PTAF. [5]
Personal life
Kandi's father passed away two weeks after she was born, and she spent most of her childhood in a homeless shelter. She now owns a house. Since making their viral video, all of the members have graduated high school. Alizé and K-Duce are both mothers to young children. [6]
