Jay Freeman (also known as "Saurik") is an American businessman and software developer. He is known for creating the Cydia application suite.
Freeman studied informatics and obtained a doctorate from the University of California.[1] He is a member of the iPhone Dev Team development community (for the iPhone OS).[2]
He created the Cydia software application, for Apple Inc.'s iOS operating system, which allows the phone to be unlocked.
His nickname is based on that of the codling moth, Cydia pomonella, alluding to its common habit of burroing into apples.[3]
On 10 September 2010, Freeman announced that his company Saurik IT LLC had acquired Rock Your Phone, Inc. (known for their Rock App) to make Cydia the largest application suite for the iOS platform to enable a jailbreak, that is, unlock the platform to third-party apps.[4][5]
