BurnLounge
BurnLounge is a US-based online music store founded by Alex Arnold (formerly with Excel Communications and also founder and former chairman of NuEWorld.com), [1] [2] Ryan Dadd and Stephen Murray. BurnLounge is a digital music service enabling customers to preview and purchase music, chat through a proprietary client, and optionally operate their own digital music stores. Described by participants as a multi-level marketing company, [3] BurnLounge claims that it provides record labels and artists with a new fan-driven promotional channel. The advertisement videos on each BurnLounge store, however, promote recruitment rather than music.
Since launching its public beta in October 2005, the company states that nearly 30,000 people have opened their own BurnLounge stores, including artists such as Kanye West, Kiss, Good Charlotte, Hootie and the Blowfish, James Brown, Willie Nelson, and Ted Nugent. [4] Individuals can, for a fee, create a customized version of the BurnLounge homepage which touts their favorite music. BurnLounge operates on the theory that word-of-mouth sells products better than advertising.
Burnlounge provides content supplied by Muze, with software provided by Beatport and SocialIM. [5] BurnLounge currently offers only music downloads, but other products such as movies, ring tones, logo wear, TV shows, audio books, concert tickets, MP3 players, etc. are planned for the BurnLounge stores. BurnLounge debuted with the beta version 0.9 in October 2005 and version 1.0 was unveiled in Las Vegas June 9th and 10th, 2006.
