Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Kyle.jack, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Widefox (talk) 22:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Phones4U do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. I have removed the external links (spamlinks) you added. Please see WP:EXT for appropriate links. Also, I ask you if you have any connection with the company. Widefox (talk) 22:53, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the warm welcome. Having read further on Wikipedia's stance on external links, I accept that, while they may be useful to a user of Wikipedia, they can be considered spam. This was obviously not the intention. I can also confirm that I have a connection with the company. However, it is within my and the company's interest to create an unbias Wikipedia article and I hope that is demonstrated with the article's recent update. If there's any problems or concerns let me know. Kyle.jack (talk) 10:07, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the disclosure, please declare your interest on your page User:Kyle.jack. You may edit any article including this article about your company, but you are strongly encouraged to edit other articles and refrain from this one. I have tagged the article, and recommend reading WP:COI for guidance. Widefox (talk) 12:17, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the disclosure on your user page. I'd like to encourage you to more open about the type of association you have, I quote from WP:COI "If you have a financial interest in a topic (either as an employee, owner or other stakeholder) it is advised to provide full disclosure of your connection, and to use the "discussion" pages to suggest changes (using the Request edit template to request edits) rather than editing articles directly. Requested edits will be subject to the same editorial standards by neutral editors (which means they are not guaranteed to be carried out) and will help avoid situations of advocacy and related problems." If you have further questions about bias, I would encourage discussion on the talk page. As you only edit this single issue, I am marking your account as a WP:SPA, and tagging Dial-a-Phone Widefox (talk) 12:22, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Dialaphone logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Dialaphone logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

Editing with a Conflict of Interest

[edit]

On Phones4U and Dial-a-Phone. I noticed you have continued editing but have not replied to my question above. You hinted that you do in fact have a financial interest. I ask you a second time to fully disclosed this here and on your userpage. Please follow the guideline detailed above and suggest changes rather than make them directly. Saying that, I don't think this is an issue currently with your constructive edits. Widefox (talk) 11:59, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am only interested in creating a fair, unbiased representation of both brands. As you will know, Phones 4u contained a lot of negative sentiment and the large-scale edit on the 31st October was made both to rectify this and bring the article up-to-date. Moreover, I am more than happy with the additions contributed since.
Dialaphone had previously only existed as a stub and I think that what is now present is much more beneficial for Wikipedia. Again, I welcome any changes, tweaks or additions.
I am an employee of Phones 4u

Kyle.jack (talk) 14:52, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The 31st October edits you did [1] were in-part deemed controversial and were part-removed by another editor [2]. As you have a WP:COI, you must not make controversial edits:

"and are allowed to make certain kinds of non-controversial edits, such as:

1. Removing spam and reverting vandalism. 2. Deleting content that violates Wikipedia's biography of living persons policy. 3. Fixing spelling and grammar errors. 4. Reverting or removing their own COI edits. Cleaning up your own mess is allowed and encouraged. 5. Making edits that have been agreed to on the talk page. 6. Adding citations, especially when another editor has requested them.

If another editor objects for any reason, then it's a controversial edit. Such edits should be discussed on the article's talk page."

Did you read WP:COI? Also, when you "welcome changes, tweaks or additions", or "happy with the additions contributed since" please read WP:OWN. Specifically removing "negative sentiment" is something you should always let others do (see what you are allowed to do 1-6 above). Is this clear? I ask you to not make further controversial edits.
