What is the meaning of the title "Goodbye Columbus"?

Should this article not explain the meaning of the title "Goodbye Columbus"?

And include that and other key plot points in a "Cultural References" section? Explanation of idiomatic meaning is very helpful to those trying to learn American English, as well as American history, particularly in this case, the history of immigration and assimilation.

For example, the article about the show "Fiddler on the Roof" discusses the meaning of that title, and other cultural references in a section titled "Cultural influence".

For example, the article about the show "Bye Bye Birdie" discusses the origin of its title, and other cultural references in a section titled "Cultural References".

"Cultural References" might seem like trivia, but it is very helpful information. I write this comment because some "Cultural References" sections seem to be disappearing. Has there been a decision that "trivia" or trivial facts are not appropriate for an encyclopedia?
