Olimpia de Venado Tuerto (Spanish pronunciation: [oˈlimpja ðe βeˈnaðo ˈtwerto]) is an Argentine professional sports club in Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe Province, mostly known for its achievements in basketball.
History
Olimpia was the Argentine League finalist in 1995, and won the title the next year. The roster for that season was: Alejandro Montecchia, Walter Guiñazú, Federico Helale, Jorge Racca, Leonardo Gutiérrez, Lucas Victoriano, Sebastián Uranga, Todd Jadlow, Andrés Rodríguez, Carlos López Jordan, Alejandro Burgos, and Michael Lamont Wilson. The team was coached by Horacio Seguí and Jorge Racca was named the Argentine League's MVP. That same year, Olimpia also won the South American League. The club also competed in the 1996 edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
Nevertheless, the club then entered into a crisis, due to financial problems. By 2009, Olimpia had a debt of $1,5 million,[1] and due to that critical situation, the basketball team disaffiliated itself from the top Argentine League.
